LAUGHTER MAKES LIFE FUN

For a healthier, happier longevity, we need a little humor to lighten things up. To be able to look at ourselves, say, “Hey, I may not be 25 anymore, but, look at me, I am me, with all my faults and flaws, after 50, I am healthy, lively, happy and I can laugh at myself and maybe some times make others laugh.” Laughter is contagious and also some of the best medicine you can imagine. We need to lighten up and enjoy life to the fullest to enjoy a healthier, happier longevity. When was the last time you laughed so hard that it brought tears to your eyes? Remember how good it felt? It is an excellent way to relieve stress.

I recently got an email from a friend that I enjoyed and had a really good laugh. I do not know who wrote it. If I did, I would give them credit completely.

I hope this brings laughter to you and adds to your healthier longevity. We all know that exercise after 50 is very important for staying healthy as long as we can so here is an exercise to start with.

Exercise for people over 50

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-pound potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides, and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-pound potato sacks.

Then try 50-pound potato sacks, and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-pound potato sack in each hand, and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.

When was the last time you had a really good belly laugh?

Has laughter ever brought tears to your eyes?

After 50, Keep In Touch

Recently, we lost a family member to lung cancer. Given 6 months, he only lived one more month. Having family and friends around made this difficult time much easier. Keeping in touch with family and friends is important to maintain close relationships after 50. Spending time with close friends and family on a regular basis increases a healthier happier longevity. We only realize time has slipped by when we want to get in contact with everyone to let them know of the passing.

Over time, we often fail to make that call, send a note, or even send an email to keep in touch. We realize this when we cannot reach them, their phone number has changed, their email is returned. Maybe they even moved and have a new address. Often, because of this, funerals are like family reunions. We see those we haven’t seen in, sometimes, years. We even meet family members we have never met before. This is sad. We need to keep and nourish these relationships. Stay in contact.

After 50, developing this dreaded disease, cancer, becomes more likely if we don’t do something to prevent it. Healthier longevity depends on our attention to this kind of possibility. There are many things we can do to improve our chances of not developing this and many other kinds of cancer. Eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, stop smoking , reduce stress, cut out the junk food, avoiding toxins in our environments are just some of the ways we can have a healthier longevity after 50.

What are you doing to keep in touch?

STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEMS FOR LONGEVITY

What are you doing to boost your immune system for a healthier longevity? With today’s threat of the Swine Flu, having a healthy immune system increases your chances of avoiding it. For those over 50, this is even more important as our systems start to weaken as we age making us more prone to getting the flu and cold, as well as other illnesses, unless we do all we can to boost and enhance our health for a healthier longevity.

Our immune systems are under attack everyday. We eat, touch and breathe germs and bacteria that attack our bodies. Add daily stress and poor nutrition to this mix and our systems can be weakened tremendously. When our systems are weakened, we are more susceptible to diseases like the Swine Flu, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis-c, lupus and many other illnesses. After 50, these are things we need to be aware of and check with our doctors if we think there is something wrong. It is far better to know if we are at risk than to ignore it when we could be taking positive steps to prevent illness.

My husband and I rarely get sick. When others are suffering from a colds and flu, we very seldom get even a touch. We are not concerned when our friends say not to come visit, or stay away because they are sick because
we boost our immune systems. There are many who do nothing or very little to seriously improve their health and support their immune systems therefore leaving themselves open to things like swine flu and serious illnesses. Interferon in our bodies fights off bacteria and germs to help ward off many illnesses increasing our resistance to diseases that hinder our healthy longevity, shortening our lifespan after 50.

How concerned are you about your immune system?
